As far as history is concerned, brutalism has nothing to do with brutality as such, at least it did not intend to. The phrase comes from the french term ‘Béton Brut’, which conveniently translates to ‘raw concrete’. My photo series, Béton Brut, looks at documenting the current collection of brutalist buildings in Bristol, creating a series of photographs which can be used as a map for everyone to experience and admire. The entire photo series is shot on black and white film, developed by hand and left unprocessed.
